What is the process for Making Tax Digital?

All software will be a bit different but here’s how APARI MTD software works:

Step 1: Keep digital records

You can add individual income and expenses or upload a bank statement/spreadsheet of transactions. The software will then automatically allocate income and expenses.

Some transactions may not be relevant to your business, or you may have different income/expenses for different businesses/properties. You’ll have a chance to review these transactions and tag the ones that are relevant to your business.

Step 2: Sign up for MTD

HMRC has asked APARI to control who joins the pilot. You can tell us if you’re interested by completing this short survey.

Step 3: Receive reminders about key dates

Our software will remind you about your quarterly and annual tax submissions. We will also remind you about other key dates, such as insurance renewals and tenancy periods.

Step 4: Submit your tax information to HMRC directly from APARI

Our software automatically prepares the quarterly summaries that HMRC need. After a review of the information, all you need to do is click submit. Our software then connects directly to HMRC and submits all the information automatically. You’ll get immediate confirmation that HMRC are happy.

At the end of the year, you need to legally declare that you’ve told HMRC everything that you need to. APARI walks you through the various steps to give you the reassurance that you’ve done what HMRC expect.

All you need to do then is pay your tax bill by the deadline (don’t worry, we’ll remind you!)

And because the software will show you your tax liability in real-time using current information, you’ll know exactly how much you’re likely to owe at the end of the tax year, helping you avoid any nasty surprises.

As an APARI customer, you’ll also have access to our expert accounting team who can help you through the process.
